OCCUPATION: Physician
Assistant
SPOUSE: Jim Gatz
CHILDREN: NONE
LOCATION: Silver
Spring, Maryland
JOB
CHANGES: I left the class in 1983 and
joined the Army where I received a GED.
I first joined the 2nd Battalion, 75th (Ranger) Infantry Regiment.
Stayed there about five years and qualified for the United States Army Special Forces (aka: Green Berets).
I deployed to the Gulf War
with my A-Team and we were attached to the Syrian Army for the duration of
the conflict. To the best of my knowledge it has been the only time in
history the the Syrian and US Armies ever
cooperated in any combat action. I spent nearly ten-years on active
duty before answering the longing for an education that I missed out
on. The coolest part of this job was learning I could do anything if I
was willing to endure.
I got out of the Army in 1992 to attend college in Maryland. While going to college
full time and working full time as an Anesthesia Technician. Sounds really
interesting, but basically I was a scut monkey and
all around gopher for a group of anesthesiologist. The really cool
thing about the job was FULLY paid tuition. I received a BA in English.
From there I was accepted into the University
of Washington Physician Assistant Program,
which I completed in 2000.
I have worked as a PA serving homeless men and women, drug addicts, and
prostitutes in inner-city Washington, DC, rural community
medicine in West Virginia, Family medicine
in southern Virginia and currently working
doing Urgent Care in suburban Maryland.
Each setting has its unique challenges but I enjoy it. The really cool
thing about this job is I continually learn.
HOBBIES/INTERESTS: Humanism
Funky Art
Liberal Politics
MESSAGE: Although, I did not graduate with the
class in 1985 because of personal circumstance I have carried with me some
part of you in my heart for my whole life. I first learned friendship
from some of you. I first learned loyalty from some of you. I
first learned to laugh at myself from some of you. But mostly I learned
that I am a part of something bigger than myself from all of you. I am
a Blazer!
